Born in Chennai, India (formerly known as Madras), Dr. Uma Iyer earned her degree in Medicine (MBBS) from Stanley Medical College and the University of Madras in India, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class. She relocated to the United States as she was obtaining her postgraduate training in opthamology. Subsequently, Dr. Iyer completed her residency in internal medicine at the Pitt County Memorial Hospital, East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Iyer joined CCCNF in 2003 after a brief private practice stint in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Iyer is a member of the American Society for Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is board certified in hematology and medical oncology. Dr. Iyer enjoys reading and is also an avid listener and learner of the Indian classical music. She treasures quality family time with her husband and daughters and enjoys working on her home garden with her husband.
